Black Friday 2026: how to keep track of prices
A practical guide for shop owners and buyers: what you can monitor, what the 30-day rule means, and how to keep your own record of a price before the event.
OmniWatchGuard does not publish a Black Friday price index. Large retailers that block automated access cannot be monitored: OmniWatchGuard respects robots.txt and does not bypass anti-bot protection.
Watch your own prices and pages that allow automated access
A price monitor checks a product page on a schedule and records the price it finds. In OmniWatchGuard you add the page URL, choose the price monitor type and the interval your plan allows: 60 minutes on Starter, from 15 minutes on Pro, from 5 minutes on Agency.
- Your own shop: monitor your own product pages to notice a wrong price, a discount that did not apply or a product shown as out of stock.
- Competitor pages: this works only on sites that allow automated access. If a site refuses it, the check fails and you are told.
- Threshold alert: you can ask to be alerted only when the price falls or rises by at least a percentage you choose.
What the lowest price in the last 30 days rule means
Under the EU Omnibus rules (Directive (EU) 2019/2161), when a seller announces a price reduction, it must show the lowest price it applied in the 30 days before the reduction. The discount is measured against that price, not against an older or higher list price.
For a shop this means keeping a dated record of its own prices. For a buyer it means the reference price next to a discount should be the lowest price of the last 30 days. This is a general description, not legal advice; national rules have details and exceptions.
Keep your own record of a price before the event
- Choose the products a few weeks ahead.
- Check each page yourself on set dates, for example once a week, and write down the price and the date. A dated screenshot is enough.
- For pages that permit automated access, a monitor can do the checking and keep the history for you.
- On the day of the sale, compare the price with your record, not with the crossed-out price on the page.
What OmniWatchGuard does not do
- It does not publish a price index, a list of monitored shops or price statistics.
- It cannot monitor large retailers that block automated access.
- It reads the publicly listed price only. Coupons, loyalty prices and app-only offers are not seen.
