Why competitor pricing matters
In an increasingly competitive online retail environment, the difference between a won sale and a lost one can come down to a few percentage points on price. Many shoppers compare prices across several stores before buying. If you don't know when your competitor drops a price, you lose customers without understanding why.
OmniWatchGuard automatically checks prices on product pages that allow automated access, every 5, 15, 30 or 60 minutes depending on the plan, and sends you an instant alert when it detects a change. Try it free.
What types of price changes you can monitor
Not all price changes are obvious. OmniWatchGuard detects:
- List price changed — the main displayed price changes
- Promotional price added or removed — flash discounts, weekend deals
- Per-unit price changed — packaging or quantity changes
- Shipping cost changed — free shipping added or removed
How automated price monitoring works
The process has 3 simple steps:
- Add the URLs of competitors' product pages to the OmniWatchGuard dashboard
- Choose the check frequency: 5 minutes (Agency plan), 15 or 30 minutes (Pro) or 60 minutes (Starter)
- Get an instant alert via email, Slack, Discord or Telegram whenever the price changes
You don't need CSS selectors, technical knowledge or a dedicated server. OmniWatchGuard handles all the infrastructure — you just get the notification.
Real-world cases: who uses price monitoring
Online stores (eCommerce)
For example, an electronics retailer could monitor the product pages of its main competitors. When a competitor drops the price on a popular laptop, the alert arrives after the next check and the retailer can react before the difference matters.
Pricing agencies and consultants
Agencies managing pricing strategy for clients can monitor hundreds of URLs simultaneously with theAgency plan.
Manufacturers and brands
Manufacturers can check whether distributors are honoring the recommended retail price (MSRP), or whether some retailers are selling below the enforced minimum price.
Price monitoring vs. manual scraping
| Criterion | Manual / in-house scraping | OmniWatchGuard |
|---|---|---|
| Setup time | Days or weeks | Under 2 minutes |
| Maintenance | Constant (sites change) | Zero |
| Infrastructure | Own server required | Cloud, included |
| Instant alerts | Requires separate implementation | Included |
| Pages with JavaScript | Complicated (Puppeteer, etc.) | Real browser on the Agency plan |

Integrate alerts into your workflow
Price alerts can be sent directly to:
- Email — immediate notification with the URL and old vs new price
- Slack — message in the pricing team's channel
- Discord / Telegram — real-time notifications
- Webhook — integration with any internal system (ERP, repricing tool)
Frequently asked questions
How fast do I get the alert after a price change?
It depends on the plan you choose. With the Agency plan (checks every 5 minutes), you'll know in under 5 minutes. With the Pro plan (15 minutes) or Starter (60 minutes), within that respective interval.
Can I also monitor prices on marketplaces and large retailers?
Only where the site allows automated access. We respect robots.txt and do not bypass anti-bot protection, so some large retailers and marketplaces cannot be monitored.
Does it also work on pages that require authentication?
Yes, on the Agency plan. You add the authentication cookie or header when configuring the monitor, the data is stored encrypted (AES-GCM) and used only for automated checks. Auto-filling login forms, 2FA, and VPN-gated intranets are not supported. If the session expires, you get a separate alert so you can re-authenticate the monitor. For more complex setups (SSO, multi-step authentication), contact us to discuss a custom Enterprise implementation.
